About Ria Abel Home for the Aged

Ria Abel Home for the Aged, originally known as Huis Ysterplaat, was established in 1981. The Home is a member of the ACVV family and proudly carries the name of the National Chairperson of the ACVV – Mrs Ria Abel.

Our Home

The Home comprises of 28 bachelor flats, 3 double flats, 25 single rooms and a 22-bed Frail Care facility.

Residents who occupy the flats fall in the category of independent living and are free to come and go as they please. A special internal telephone system allows all residents in flats to communicate with reception, the manager, the nurses’ station or to speak to all other residents at any time, free of charge. Residents of flats are also issued with a remote unit which enables them to summon assistance from the nurses’ station 24 hours a day.

Hospital Access

Both private and state ambulances can be summoned swiftly in case of emergency. Milnerton Medi-Clinic, Vincent Pallotti Hospital, Groote Schuur and New Somerset are hospitals in our catchment area.
