Meet Ria Abel

Ria Abel is a woman of faith and courage who has served the ACVV with distinction, as a volunteer, for over 50 years. A deep commitment and love for all God’s people, irrespective of gender, race or status sums up the character of this remarkable woman.

Ria Abel has been the National Chairperson of the ACVV for the past 15 years but before this she was involved in many facets of the ACVV including the management of a number of the ACVV homes.

Established in 1904 by a band of Afrikaner women with a love for God and country – seeking to serve the poor and disadvantaged – the ACVV is today the oldest welfare organisation in South Africa.

Their motto in Afrikaans, English and Xhosa proudly declares:

SAAM IN DIENS VAN DIE GEMEENSKAP

TOGETHER IN SERVICE OF THE COMMUNITY

SIKUNYE KWIINKONZO ZOLUNTO

Ria Abel

And, just as the women who went before her, so too Ria Abel epitomises the strength of character, the determination and an amazing spirit of goodwill. Ria is always willing and ready to serve, uplift and to embrace – the young, the elderly and the needy. We are extremely proud that our home bears her name.
